Dhanvantari is an Avatar of Lord Vishnu from the Hindu tradition. He appears in the Vedas and Purana’s as the physician of the gods and the god of ayurvedic medicine. It is common practice in Hinduism for worshipers to pray to Dhanvantari seeking his blessings for sound health for themselves and for others.
Lord Dhanvantari is the Divine Healer. The evolution of Lord Dhanvantari is a very rare occurrence. Lord Dhanvantari resurfaces only from the great churning of the ocean, well known as the "Sagar Manthan". This great oceanic activity reunited the disappeared Goddess Lakshmi with Lord Vishnu. It is Lord Dhanvantari who appeared with the 'Amrit' (nectar of eternal life),
which was later distributed by Lord Vishnu to all demi-gods making them immortal and thus enabling the demi-gods to free the heaven from the devils who had captured it.
